EV Forum Rules (READ 1ST!)
#1
Exclamation
The basic law of the land is to be ethical, law-abiding, polite, respectful, and thoughtful. The Ecoculture Village Forum is a public place, so read the following rules and behave accordingly.

When reading the following rules, keep in mind that if there are any disagreements, those with the rank of 'Administrator' and 'Moderator' have final say in whatever matter. We’re not trying to be exclusionist; we’re just ensuring our forum community remains an accessible and pleasant experience for as many as we can. It is said that one bad apple spoils the whole barrel, and because we will enforce the spirit of the law as well as the letter, don't be shocked if we take appropriate action against ANY violation of ANY of these rules at ANY time, without ANY warning whatsoever other than these rules. That said, while the above is true, it is also true we want to moderate in moderation, so if you do have a problem with a mod or admin, PM (Personal Message) rather than post. We want to work it out if possible.

1. NO DISCUSSING ANY ILLEGAL ACTIVITY AS A VIABLE OPTION
We will not tolerate any post that condones any activity that is against U.S. federal law; UNLESS the activity is otherwise legal in a specific U.S. state AND the specific U.S. state is mentioned by name or noted by way of the state's abbreviation in the post title; for example, if the post contained information about marijuana use [illegal federally, but legal in Colorado (2012), Washington (2012), Alaska (2014), Oregon (2014), Washington, DC (2014), California (2016), Maine (2016), Massachusetts (2016), and Nevada (2016)], the post title might look like this, "Vaporization Temperatures of Herbs [California]". (paragraph last updated: 11-06-17)

2. RESPECT PRIVACY
Everyone is entitled to privacy. Do not post personally identifying information, whether your own or someone else's. Using your real name as your username is fine, although most people don't so as to maintain a degree of anonymity. The PM (Personal Message) system may be used to exchange your own personally identifying information, but Ecoculture Village is not responsible for whatever outcome sharing your personally identifying information results in; it is hereby understood that sharing any of your personal information that you PM is AT YOUR OWN RISK!

3. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT
If it's not your work, you may post it only according to these rules:

IF A QUOTE, it must be contained within quotation marks (" "), and the author must be cited. Quote no more than a paragraph or two.

For example:

"Law is any application for the official use of coercion that succeeds." (Bob Black).

or

"Idealists are foolish enough to throw caution to the winds. They have advanced mankind and have enriched the world." - Emma Goldman.

or using the 'Insert a Quote' button:

Quote:"Observe Nature thoroughly rather than labour thoughtlessly." -- Masanoby Fukuoka, ‘One Straw Revolution’

Quotes are often difficult to trace to their original source, so no link is necessary.

IF AN ARTICLE, E-BOOK, ETC., post only a 'broken' portion of the text in quotation marks, or an unbroken portion... only a paragraph or two... of the text in quotation marks; and accompany the material with a link to the original source.
In either case, post no more than a paragraph or two.

For example:

"Ecoculture is our main strategy, and for the purposes of our mission statement, we define it as:..." (http://www.ecoculturevillage.org/).

or

"Tropical forests are under unprecedented pressure for conversion to pastoral and agricultural land or to plantations (including for biofuel production) and from the supply and extraction of forest goods and services, including timber and bushmeat (Kant 2004, Gardner et al. 2009). To preserve them, much effort has gone into setting up and managing a network of protected areas because, for various constituencies, conservation is best served by outright protection (Bowles et al. 1998), occasionally after initial extraction of valuable species (Rice et al. 1997). Others, however, see this as an ultimately limited option (Wood 1995, Lugo 1999, Pearce et al. 2003, Gardner et al. 2009). They argue the need to include sustainable forest management, balancing productivity and offtake with efforts to conserve biodiversity, maintain vital forest functions, and continue supplying various social and economic benefits, across various scales." - http://www.ecologyandsociety.org/vol14/iss2/art40/ -

IF AN IMAGE, the photographer or artist must be credited.

As you can see from the above examples, the exact format is not what is important; obeying these rules regardless of whether or not the material seems copyrighted is!

While it is true that each author/poster remains solely responsible for the content they posted, and that each author/poster has agreed to indemnify and hold harmless the owners of this forum, any related websites to this forum, its staff, and its subsidiaries; regarding anything they post; If you have found material on this forum that violates your copyright, please contact us immediately and we will give the matter our full attention.

FURTHER, Ecoculture Village and the EV logo are copyrighted trademarks and servicemarks, and all Ecoculture Village artwork, photos, writings, etc. found anywhere on ecoculturevillage.org including this forum site are copyrighted by Ecoculture Village and/or TBoanProds, unless specifically stated otherwise, κτλ. All rights reserved. Unlicensed use of any Ecoculture Village material is prohibited by law. All posts are the property and responsibility of the original poster and do not necessarily express the opinions of Ecoculture Village.

4. NO FOUL OR PROFANE LANGUAGE
This includes the use of other characters in place of letters.

5. NO EXTREME OR SUGGESTIVE VIOLENCE
This includes blood/gore and any reference to mindless violence as a viable human option.

6. NO PORNOGRAPHY
This includes anything overtly sexual as well as nudity.

7. NO SPAMMING
Spamming is the posting of advertisements or other unwanted messages, and includes links, visible and otherwise, to external sites with the intent of increasing search engine visibility and generating more website traffic. Spamming includes business or commercial links posted in the user's profile and signature.

Please note that everyone, after having brought much valuable discussion, respectably with regards to EV Forum Rules, and having achieved the title... YEAH BUDDY!... is welcome to place a link to their personal website in their signature, provided it is not commercial and otherwise abides by Ecoculture Village Forum Rules; we do not want to link to any site that contains any material we would not appreciate having here.

8. NO TROLLING/FLAMING --- Trolling/flaming is the posting of abusive, annoying, demeaning, extraneous, harassive, hostile, inflammatory, insulting, intolerant, off-topic, offensive, redundant, repetitive, or threatening messages; with the primary intent of disrupting normal on-topic discussion and/or provoking other members into an emotional response. Trolling includes excessive shouting (ALL CAPS!).

Because body language, connotation, tone, etc. can be largely or entirely absent in internet forum communication, you may hear words in a way the writer did not intend. Give the benefit of the doubt if there seems to be a misunderstanding. Personal opinions often widely vary regarding most things worth discussing, so if you feel the need to let someone know you disagree, show enough respect to also intelligently share why. This is often also known as constructive criticism.

Don't feed the trolls or the flames!

9. ENGLISH ONLY & PROOFREAD BEFORE POSTING
All posts must be made in English. Any posting of any language other than English must be accompanied by an accurate English translation.

Speaking English includes spellings words correctly, and using correct grammar and punctuation. A sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period, etc. Typos will happen and typos will be tolerated; but, while the paragraph (?) below certainly contains meaning and validity, and is even inspiring; because the manner in which it is written is not proofread English as far as most readers are concerned, it would come across to most readers as just plain rude and would be in all likelihood avoided and would eventually wind up in the Post Graveyard:

Quote:It's a funny thing the human race if u can even call it that has been a constant thorn in its oun side the meanings of things have been thrown out these days ppl blieve they just have freedom but they dont have ta respect it there 4 man is abusing his existance. Cause as it is ppl blieve the universe owes them some thing example if i where to give some one a time machine they wouldnt use it too learn grow an understand the universe they would use it ta make their oun life greater by givin them selves more in the past 2 bcome greater well most would ne way but i could b wrong cause its a big difference between the humans we create an the humans we realy r. Its up 2 those who wish ta carry the mantle of knowledge 2 help man continue 2 exsist but the price is u must have facts period other wise no 1 would listen then u have ta bcarful of those that would enterprize against the truth 2 protect their oun interests (CORPORATIONS *COUGH COUGH*!). The ability to change things comes from with in and 2 find those who would b willin ta seek the same purpose. Take me 4 instance i know im a natural born leader an ive seen what i can do with it an its scary causee im not ready 2 weild it i still have 2 many temptations when we meet ill go into detail about it dont want ta give every thing away but what im tryin ta say is i found sooooo many homeless seekin leadership an purpose of unity i was sadened by it as well. As 4 us we definitly need ta get on track casue now im interseted even more in meetin u cause im startin ta feel a motivation i havent felt in a long time an its urging me 2 cooperate with u as it feels like it is neccisary (i NEVER ignore my gut its saved my ass on many occations). Would u look at this crap im not a writer i says i have no knack ta write i says im a hands on i says LOL LMAO good way ta foot in mouth i guess that means im  just not listenin ta my self ne more YIKES! Well it seems we both have the same attitude about life an its procs so i say HELL YEAH bring it on my bro we need ta get tagether cause i think this is what ive been waitin 4 i feel a change an its good all round i am very interested in hearin ur ideas as well as imparting my oun

That said, an English professor wrote the words: "A woman without her man is nothing." on the chalkboard and asked his students to punctuate it correctly.

All the males in the class wrote: "A woman, without her man, is nothing."

All the females in the class wrote: "A woman: without her, man is nothing."

10. NO UNDECIPHERABLE ABBREVIATIONS OR ACRONYMS
Never assume people know what an abbreviation or acronym stands for. All abbreviations and acronyms must be accompanied by what the abbreviation or acronym stands for, just once is all that is needed, ideally the first time it is mentioned in a post. For example:

"The most famous cryptocurrency is Bitcoin (BTC). Since its inception, it has hugely risen in value. I have personally watched it grow from being worth $20 when I first became aware of it, to over $6000 today." (http://www.ecoculturevillage.org/onlinei...tcoin-btc/)

11. NO REPEAT POSTING
Do not post the same post twice. This applies to quoting as well, so keep it focused.

11. STAY ON TOPIC OR USE SEARCH OR START A NEW TOPIC THREAD
Do not hijack others' threads or otherwise derail a thread with a different topic. Use the search function to see if there is already a thread on the same topic you can post to rather than starting a new one. If there is not a thread already discussing your topic, start a new thread.

12. PRIVATE MESSAGES
The PM system is not an excuse to break the rules. If anyone sends you a PM that contains spam, or is insulting or threatening, contact a moderator or admin.

13. POLITICS AND RELIGION
Please keep all purely political/religious discussions confined to the 'Politics & Religion' board in the 'Other Topics' category. Granted, many topics are many-sided and so will overlap, and discussion of laws and belief structures may appropriately occur in many different topics; but keep discussions concerning elections, need for new legislation, particular politicians/religious leaders, and voting where they belong.

14. NO MEANINGLESS OR VAGUE POSTS
Whether or not a statement is definitionally correct can be largely determined by personal semantics, and can make for interesting discussion. On the other hand, speaking intelligently does not include obscure comments, lone smilies, quick emotion status replies or 1 or 2 word expressions of your agreement or disagreement (i.e., "+1"), or any other non-sense. This includes that Subject Lines be descriptive of post content, and not something such as "Check it out!" This also includes inappropriately large or small font sizes and font colors that do not contrast well enough with the background color to be seen clearly.

When in doubt, ask yourself whether or not the majority of the community would consider your post to be a quality relevant contribution to the topic, and if so, post it. Save the more personal communications for the PM system.

15. NO MOD DISSING
Posts questioning or downplaying the validity of moderator actions are not allowed. Avatars that might be confused with staff avatars are not allowed. Also, if you are warned, and you disagree with the moderator or admin, PM rather than post.

16. NO MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS
Each member is allowed only one account.

17. SIGNATURES
No images. Text should take up a reasonable amount of space, and may include a link.

Please note that everyone, after having brought much valuable discussion, respectably with regards to EV Forum Rules, and having achieved the title... YEAH BUDDY!... is welcome to place a link to their personal website in their signature, provided it is not commercial (likewise, the link may not be an affiliate link) and otherwise abides by Ecoculture Village Forum Rules; we do not want to link to any site that contains any material we would not appreciate having here.

Consequently, Ecoculture Village reserves the right to take any actions it sees as appropriate, including banning, to ensure this forum remains appropriate for intelligent discussion and sharing of ideas.
