Review (Video) of the Lightning Strike… “The World’s Best Fire Starter”

September 12, 2015 by Troy Boylan Leave a Comment

My fire making kit is composed of several very different items… from different tinders, to different ways to make sparks, and also to different ways to make flame. This is not only redundancy… two is one, one is none… but also overlap. Each item has a circumstantial strength, but also a circumstantial limitation compensated for by another item in the kit. As comprehensive and as complete my survival fire making kit is, I have long searched for an emergency fire making device that will produce flame in extreme circumstances quickly and easily… even if limited to using only one cold hand… and with respect to all the items in my fire making kit, I believe I have found a fire making device that just might be the “World’s Best Fire Starter”… a bold claim indeed!

A good fire starting device must be and do several things:

  • Be durable;
  • Be easily visible;
  • Be intuitive to use;
  • Able to be used one-handed;
  • Produce lots of hot sparks that will reliably ignite a variety of tinders;
  • Come with its own emergency tinder that will work even if wet;
  • All finite components (sparking component and emergency tinder) must be refillable/replaceable.

Most survival oriented individuals will choose a ferrocerium rod because ferro rods last a long time, and they easily produce enough sparks hot enough to ignite a variety of natural and man-made tinders. The Lightning Strike is a ferrocerium rod type of fire starter, but it takes the concept to a whole new level, as in addition to having a hollow aluminum handle that contains enough emergency tinder to start at least 20 fires… even if the tinder gets wet… BUT the aluminum housing extends down beyond the ferro rod which channels and focuses the hot sparks into a small area! This is very effective in concentrating the sparks directly onto the tinder where you want them.

In the video I review the Lightning Strike Fire Starter… putting it through the paces. Is it really the best in the world? Watch the video for details… but in short… while what is the “best” largely comes down to personal experience… I think, yes, the Lightning Strike is one of the very best… at least of the ferrocerium rod variety… in the world.

I recommend you buy the Lightning Strike and practice with it yourself so you can see how truly awesome an emergency fire starter it is!

Why The Background Is Not White

White light is full spectrum, meaning it contains equal amounts of the highest intensity red, green, and blue light. Blue light is short wave frequency, and is thus potentially damaging to eyes and overall well-being. Thus, EV’s content background color is an eye friendly cream color low in red and green light, but even lower in blue light. Be additionally protected from the blue light emitted from your e-device by wearing computer glasses.
